TEMPERED GLASS

Flat tempered glass is a safety glass that is obtained through a heat treatment that consists of heating the glass to a temperature somewhat lower than its softening and then abruptly cooling it by means of jets of cold air. The tempering treatment gives the glass greater resistance to mechanical stresses (bending, shock …) and to stresses of thermal origin (temperature differences), without altering the spectrophotometric properties of the base product.

Thermally tempered glass is approximately four times stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness and configuration, and must meet all the requirements of EN 12150. If it does break, it does so into relatively small fragments, which would not cause serious injury. This type of glass is intended for general and security glazing, for example, sliding doors, building entrances, bathroom and shower screens, interior partitions.
